Feature And Benefits
SODIUM BICARBONATE provides two basic functions:
(1) removes soluble calcium
(2) lowers pH of the drilling mud
Product Function
SODIUM BICARBONATE should be mixed through the mud hopper. Do not use Sodium Bicarbonate to treat make–up water. Use Soda Ash for softening water, over treatment with Sodium Bicarbonate will result in carbonate / bicarbonate contamination of the drilling fluid resulting in rheological and filtration control problems.
Recommended treatment
Pretreatment with 0.25–0.5 lbs/bbl (0.7–1.4 kgs/m3) of Sodium Bicarbonate as a precaution before drilling out cement.
When “green” cement is drilled, the treatment with Sodium Bicarbonate may need to be doubled or even tripled. Bicarbonates of soda will result in decrease in pH, allowing the calcium solubility to increase.
Shipping References
Transportation of SODIUM BICARBONATE is not restricted by any regulatory agency.
