Feature And Benefits
GYPSUM is used to prepare muds. The limited water solubility of GYPSUM provides an excellent inexpensive source of calcium ions to inhibit swelling and provide for base exchange of shale and clays to the calcium form. The calcium solubility of GYPSUM increases with higher chloride levels.
Product Function
GYPSUM is used to formulate gyp–base muds. GYPSUM can be used to reduce carbonate levels of water–base muds without increasing the pH as the case with lime hydrate.
Recommended treatment
GYPSUM is normally used in concentrations of 2–5 lbs/bbl (5.7–14.3 kgs/m³) for conversion of sodium–base muds to gyp– base muds. For carbonate removal, the concentration levels depend on the degree of carbonates present in the muds.
Shipping References
Transportation of GYPSUM is not restricted by any regulatory agency.
